The last week (September 1 to 8 in 2012) of our trip we spent in South Beach Miami at the Shore Club Hotel.
South Beach
South Beach (nicknamed SoBe) is a neighbourhood in the city of Miami Beach. Today it’s a major entertainment destination with hundreds of nightclubs, restaurants, boutiques and hotels.
Art Déco
The Art Déco district is a U.S. historic district located in South Beach, which begins at the Ocean Drive. It consists of lots of buildings of the 30s and 40s of the 20th century. Gianni Versace (founder of Versace) has lived here too. A lot of buildings turned into hotels over the time.
Shore Club Hotel
Great hotel with a very good location: close to the beach and central for going out. The rooms (as the interior of the hotel itself) look stylish and modern. Don’t miss the “Sundaze” pool parties on Sunday! 😀
Labour Day weekend
Since we arrived in the “off-season”, there were not much people around. This changed over the Labour Day weekend. It seemed that whole U.S. travelled to Miami to make party!
Food
As I saw from the first moment on, SoBe was different. In other cities in Florida you came across a fast-food restaurant nearly every 1 mile: McDonalds, Burger King, Arby’s, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Panda Express and so on…
In SoBe I found only 1 McDonalds. There were other restaurants, a little bit more expensive, but it was worth it! You can find healthy food as well as fast food. The healthier the food, the more you gonna pay for it…
Skyline of Miami
From the port of Miami (cruise port) you get an unbelievable view of Miami Downtown: A beautiful place in the evening or at night to make pictures.
Nightlife/Parties
Even it was “off-season”, there were a lot of people around. Amnesia had summer break, but all the other clubs like LIV, Mansion, Nikki Beach, Bamboo and Mokai were full. Admission (at least for men) is around 40 USD or more, it depends on the event which takes place. Drink prices are also high. The average price for a cocktail is around 20 USD.
Often there are a lot of good possibilities on one day so you have to choose. Sound is from House over Latin over HipHop to Techno->for everybody something. Of course there are more parties or clubs than I mentioned above, but one week is definitely not enough to check them all.
Don’t miss: Sundays @ Nikki Beach and the Pitcher Mojito Extra Fire 😀
