My top five beaches of California are:
Beach | Reason |
Newport Beach, O.C. | * clean beach + water, also not overcrowded * stores and places to eat just around the corner * Newport Pier beach walk * nice big waves * shallow -> you can walk into the ocean, it does not getting deep that quickly |
Balboa Beach, O.C. | * clean beach + water, also not overcrowded * nice big waves directly at the shore * Balboa Pier, some stores and also places to eat just around the corner * place of lots of (body)surfers * steep -> beware of rip currents! |
Manhattan Beach, L.A. | * clean, wide, sandy beaches * less crowded than Santa Monica public parks with picnic tables, restrooms and so on sports activities such as beach volleyball, swimming, body boarding and surfing |
Mission Beach, S.D | * really big beach with lot of space beach walk * Balboa Park and other stores/restaurants right there * shallow -> you can walk into the ocean, it does not getting deep that quickly |
Moonstone Beach, Cambria | * dark (almost) black sand small beach between coastline * Without wetsuit it is definitely too cold to take a full-body-bath up here :D, but just to relax it is definitely suited whale watching beautiful sunsets |
