The US Highway 1 is a scenic highway and basically connects San Francisco with Los Angeles. It runs along most of the beautiful Pacific coastline of California which makes it one of the most attractive scenic roads in the world. As already mentioned, the route basically goes from SF to LA, but the real highlight is along the coast from Monterey to San Luis Obispo. Those towns are connected by a single road that winds along the steep coast, with several state parks (nature parks) on the way. You might also see elephant seals or even whales! For this section you should definitely plan to do it in more than one day, so you can stop often to take pictures or just to enjoy and explore this unique landscape.
